Bloomington, IL. -- The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) will celebrate the 30th year of National
High School Activities Week, which is sponsored by the National Federation of the State High School Associations
(NFHS), from Sunday, October 11 through Saturday, October 17 in 2009.
“Activities Week is a great opportunity to recognize several of the core elements that compose the foundation
of high school activities and sports,” said IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman. “It is a good
chance to reflect on the impact of high school sports and activities, as well as to realize that the victories in
interscholastic participation are not always determined by the scoreboard.”
The IHSA is proud to announce that Monical’s Pizza will be the presenting sponsor of National High School
Activities Week in 2009, as Monical’s has provided each IHSA member school with posters to promote the
event. Monical’s started as a family restaurant in Tolono, Illinois in 1959 and the Bradley, Illinois-based
chain has since grown to 63 locations throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.
“Monical’s Pizza is proud to partner with the IHSA and the year-long events sponsored by this wonderful
organization,” said Monical’s Pizza President Janelle Reents. “We are excited to participate in the National
High School Activities Week and support the development of high school students across Illinois. Our commitment,
as always, is to strengthen the communities we call home.”
National Activities Week was started in 1980 by the NFHS to help provide recognition to pivotal influences
and elements necessary to help high school participants develop into productive citizens. Each day during the
week highlights a different integral aspect necessary to support the mission of high school interscholastic
participation.
The daily themes for the 2009 National High School Activities Week are…
